Kitchen Remodeling FAQs

When you are getting your kitchen redesigned, many questions may come to mind.

Here are some of the inquiries that are often asked over a wide range of kitchen remodeling topics.

What is typically involved in kitchen remodeling?

Kitchen remodeling is commonly composed of 4 elements:

  1. Tearing down (covering appliances and cabinetry)

  2. Restoration, if necessary

  3. New construction or set up of cabinets, flooring, counters, and/or appliances

  4. Final cleanup; task close-out

When redesigning a kitchen, what should I pick first?

This is a tough question and will depend primarily on the setup of your kitchen but typically speaking, you should start with picking out devices.

How long does it take to redesign a kitchen?

A kitchen redesign is based on on the condition of the existing kitchen, how many changes you want and other factors such as your financial plan or if you plan to move out. In brief, for a typical (6×5-ft) kitchen with all new cabinetry and appliances it takes about 3 weeks.

How much does it price to mount new kitchen surfaces?

The cost to install new kitchen surfaces varies from $2.75 per square foot for laminate up to $10+ per square foot for fabricated stone and hand-cut natural stone. The typical is about $7.25 / sq ft installed.

How much does it charge to install a new kitchen basin?

The cost to install a new kitchen sink varies widely, anywhere from $300 for a cheap all-plastic unit up to $2,000+ for a high end single bowl stainless steel / porcelain undermount washbasin. The mean is about $450.

Is granite reliable?

Granite has been researched thoroughly and determined to be safe for use in homes and kitchens. Two of the primary concerns with granite are particle-based pollution, like asbestos, and radioactive gas leaking from the stone into the air. Careful sealing, testing, and ventilation can remove these threats.

What are the perks of using granite countertops?

The countertops are one of the most important aspects in a kitchen and can be used to boost worth, aesthetic, or convenience. There are many perks to using rock surfaces. They come in a array of dyes and designs. This can be used as an opportunity to create a unified sensation or add diversity relying on the design you want your kitchen renovation to take. Granite is also durable, so it will last for years before demanding any repair work done on them.

How do I know whether or not my storage units need to be swapped out?

A good rule of thumb is to replace your cupboards when they are more than 15 years ancient. They will not anymore be up to code and may have a array of problems that come with them, comprising safety hazards. If the cabinet doors don't open or close correctly, this is also an indicator you should reach out to specialists for replacement services.

What is the most pricey component of a kitchen makeover?

The chief pricey part of a kitchen remodel is the kitchen floor.

Inserting new hardwood floors generally charges about $6-7 per square foot, while ceramic tile has a price of approximately $4-$5 per square foot. Natural stone tiles are more expensive (around $9-$10 per square foot), but they can last for years without having to be replaced due to their high grade and beauty.

Can you renovate a kitchen for $5000?

It relies on the type of remodel. You can make some elementary modifications for around $5000, but a full transformation will be more costly and could price upwards of $25,000-$50,000.

How much does it cost to set up new countertops?

The expense to install new kitchen countertops fluctuates widely, anywhere from $1,000 to as much as $10,000 depending on the material picked and labor involved. In general, costs follow roughly these guidelines:

  • Laminate or other inexpensive materials: around $1,000 for typical 30" x 66" mounting
  • Corian or other synthetic quartz surfaces: around $2,000 for typical 30" x 66" setup
  • Granite or another genuine stone surface: around $4,000 for standard 30" x 66" setup

The charge of labor will be based on many factors such as the size and complexity of the countertop. Often, contractors quote a price based on the square foot of countertop that will price between $2 and $10 per square foot, though this price can vary greatly depending on the contractor and area where you live.

Is a kitchen overhaul a wise investment to make in my house?

A thoroughly executed kitchen renovation can be a sound investment whether it genuinely boosts your enjoyment and lifestyle in the house. If you aim to stay in the residence for at least 10 years, then you will regain a large percentage of the investment because new kitchens are valued more than older ones.

What are some common problems when building a new kitchen?

Some common hiccups that come up when constructing a new kitchen comprise: lack of storage area, inadequate lighting, and strangely configured rooms. Be confident to plan out how you will use the kitchen in order to evade these problems.

What is the most expensive aspect of a kitchen overhaul?

The most costly part of a kitchen makeover is generally the kitchen equipment. Depending on your budget, you might be able to get away with just changing your countertops and cabinets; but if you want new high-end stainless steel gadgets, that money can really accumulate swiftly.

What substances are usually used in current kitchens?

Designs in modern kitchens vary. They can be constructed of stainless steel, black granite countertops, and sleek white cabinets for an elegant style that will make your kitchen be noticeable from the rest.

The list goes on with a variety of choices to accommodate different tastes or budgets.

Is it cheaper to rehabilitate or replace cabinets?

It is based on on the age and makes of your cabinets. If they are less than five years old, it is usually less costly to refinish them rather than swap out them with new ones. Older models will require to be swapped out rather than reconditioned.

The cost for changing a cabinet can range anywhere from $160 -$200 per door while the expense for restoring a door can span from $70 -$100.

Additionally, modern cabinets are simpler to put together than aged ones and they come fully assembled as opposed to being composed of multiple pieces that require assembly.

What resources are regularly used in current kitchens?

There are numerous different materials used in modern kitchens. Examples include:

  • Laminate - This material is made of tiers of plastic that have been laminated together, which provides it a shiny finish and makes for an easy-to-clean countertop. It also comes with a range of colors and patterns which can be aligned to your home's palette.
  • Granite - Granite is a sturdy natural stone that has been used for ages in kitchens and other locations of the residence, chiefly because it presents sturdy longevity and can withstand temperature from cooking or dishwashing.
  • Natural Stone - A more costly option than laminate, but this component gives you a fuller look with its genuine surface.
  • Formica - A synthetic material that is sturdy and easy to clean, with a range of color schemes.

What adds the most worth when remodeling a kitchen?

When overhauling a kitchen, incorporating new cupboards is almost always a homeowner's first priority. However, if you wish to increase the return value of your residence, think beyond cabinets and think about elements that bring real benefit - like an island or breakfast alcove.

What are the advantages and drawbacks of kitchen makeover?

There are many advantages to a kitchen remodel including increased return value for your home, improved functionality in your space with an updated configuration, and potentially lowered power costs due to new materials. However, there is no guarantee that an refreshed kitchen will contribute to the wanted rise in your property's value.

What should you not do in a kitchen makeover?

When refurbishing your kitchen, be sure to communicate with the contractors and decorators throughout the procedure.

Do not make any significant blueprint decisions before discussing it over with a professional because you might regret those determinations afterwards on in the project or realize that they are costlier than you anticipated.

Should my kitchen cupboards extend to the ceiling?

The answer is: yes and no.

Cupboard height is a matterof preference in several cases. You could have storage units that reach to the top or you may like lower cupboards with an open space above them and lights installed for atmospheric lighting.

The best approach to choose what's perfect for your kitchen renovation is by thinking about how it would appear from different perspectives throughout the kitchen.

What is the duration of kitchen cabinets?

Kitchen storage units have a lifespan of 30 years. This is due to the moisture in the air and from food spills, which result in them to rust and bend over time.

What are the various kinds of kitchen layouts?

There are three main forms of kitchen configurations:

1. Galley Kitchen

A corridor kitchen is commonly long and narrow with a solitary row of cabinets on one side of the room, and appliances on the other. This layout minimizes movement in the kitchen, allowing you to complete tasks without disruptions from others in your household. It is commonly used in tiny spaces where space is at a premium, and functions best with a couple of people cooking.

2. L-Shaped Kitchen

The L-shaped kitchen floor plan features an island or peninsula that functions as a divider between the cooking section and the rest of the room. This layout produces more countertop surface area than galley and U-shaped kitchens. This provides the cook an area to prep food that is separate from where other family members are able to sit and visit. However, there is wasted area in the room because no one can walk completely around both side of the kitchen island/peninsula.

3. U-Shaped Kitchen

A U-shaped kitchen blueprint creates a large cooking zone with no idle space. This kitchen design includes an island or peninsula that functions as a barrier between the cooking zone and the rest of the room. The U-shaped kitchen is great for hosting. It gives enough working space to prepare food for groups of people without creating traffic patterns that limit activity around the cooking section.

4. Combination Kitchen Designs

Mergers of kitchen layouts are very popular because they offer the benefits of more than one design. For example, a long and narrow kitchen that leads into a nook is regarded as a mixed plan. The "L" shaped kitchen is also considered to be a combination plan..This unique layout includes an island with seating which is fantastic for entertaining.

Do I have to do anything after a kitchen remodel?

Yes, it's essential for you to tidy up any building debris that may have been left behind on the property by contractors or installers. You also wish to maintain your new floors shielded from being scuffed right away so be certain you position mats at all doors to the kitchen and protect your new wood ground with safeguarding sheets during this time-frame.

We have remodeled many homes and rooms, but this process was the easiest. The bids were clear and detailed, the subcontractors were terrific, and they even finished the project early. I had them repair some drywall. You could not tell where the very large hole had been. They were quick to come out to give a quote, then came out the next day to fix it, and had it completely done that same day. Very pleased and will use again.

My wife and I used Good Company Construction on a MAJOR remodel of our house including a complete gutting of the kitchen, complete new flooring throughout the house, painting throughout, raising the sunken living room floor, new baseboards and trim, a new (and relocated) island in the kitchen, quartz countertops, installing new ceiling beams in the living room, and building custom cabinets in kitchen and living room. I'm sure I'm leaving some things out. I cannot speak highly enough of the quality of their work. Colton Cook, the owner of the company, and Mathew Kruse, the site supervisor, not only did an outstanding job but were also great to work with. They went the extra mile to make sure we were satisfied with the work done. I should also add that they not only did quality work, but they are quality people as well. We are VERY happy with the end product. They next time we need anything done on the house (though I do hope it's a while) we will call Good Company first. We can't recommend them highly enough.
