Kitchen Remodeling FAQs

When you are having your kitchen renovated, many questions may come to mind.

Here are some of the queries that are frequently asked over an extensive spectrum of kitchen remodeling topics.

What is typically involved in kitchen remodeling?

Kitchen remodeling is commonly composed of 4 elements:

  1. Tearing down (comprising appliances and cupboards)

  2. Repair, if necessary

  3. New building or mounting of cupboards, floors, counters, and/or gadgets

  4. Final clean-out; project conclusion

When remodeling a kitchen, what should I select first?

This is a tough query and will depend mainly on the layout of your kitchen but generally speaking, you should start with picking out appliances.

How long does it take to redesign a kitchen?

A kitchen renovation relies on the state of the existing kitchen, how many modifications you want and other factors such as your financial plan or if you plan to move out. In a nutshell, for a typical (6×5-ft) kitchen with all new cabinetry and appliances it takes about 3 weeks.

How much does it charge to install new kitchen surfaces?

The expense to mount new kitchen counters fluctuates from $2.75 per square foot for laminate up to $10+ per square foot for engineered stone and hand-cut natural stone. The typical is about $7.25 / sq ft mounted.

How much does it price to mount a new kitchen sink?

The expense to set up a new kitchen sink varies extensively, anywhere from $300 for an inexpensive all-plastic unit up to $2,000+ for a high end single bowl stainless steel / porcelain undermount washbasin. The average is about $450.

Is granite secure?

Granite has been researched extensively and found to be reliable for use in homes and kitchens. Two of the primary issues with granite are particulate pollution, like silicate mineral, and radioactive gas seeping from the stone into the air. Careful encasing, testing, and aeration can eradicate these risks.

What are the perks of using granite countertops?

The counters are one of the most vital features in a kitchen and can be used to increase value, aesthetic, or ease. There are many perks to using rock countertops. They come in a spectrum of shades and styles. This can be used as an moment to build a harmonious sensation or add diversity relying on the style you wish for your kitchen remodel to take. Granite is also durable, so it will last for generations before needing any repair work done on them.

How do I realize if my cupboards need to be replaced?

A good rule of thumb is to swap out your cabinets if they are more than 15 years old. They will no longer be up to code and may have a range of problems that come with them, including safety threats. If the cabinet doors don't open or close correctly, this is also an indicator you should consult with specialists for replacement services.

What is the chief expensive part of a kitchen remodel?

The top expensive component of a kitchen makeover is the kitchen floor.

Inserting new hardwood floors usually costs about $6-7 per square foot, while ceramic tile has a cost of approximately $4-$5 per square foot. Natural stone tiles are pricier (around $9-$10 per square foot), but they can last for generations without needing to be changed due to their high standard and beauty.

Can you redesign a kitchen for $5000?

It is based on the nature of remodel. You can make some fundamental alterations for around $5000, but a full transformation will be more pricey and could amount to upwards of $25,000-$50,000.

How much does it price to install new countertops?

The price to set up new kitchen countertops fluctuates widely, anywhere from $1,000 to as much as $10,000 contingent on the material selected and labor involved. In general, costs follow approximately these standards:

  • Laminate or other inexpensive materials: around $1,000 for standard 30" x 66" installation
  • Corian or other synthetic quartz surfaces: around $2,000 for standard 30" x 66" setup
  • Granite or another genuine stone surface: around $4,000 for regular 30" x 66" mounting

The expense of labor will rely on many elements such as the dimension and challenge of the countertop. Often, contractors quote a price depending on the square foot of countertop that will cost between $2 and $10 per square foot, though this price can fluctuate greatly relying on the contractor and zone where you live.

Is a kitchen overhaul a smart investment to put in my home?

A professionally done kitchen redesign can be a good investment if it really improves your satisfaction and living standard in the residence. If you intend to stay in the residence for at least 10 years, then you will regain a large part of the expense because new kitchens are rated higher than older ones.

What are some usual issues when developing a new kitchen?

Some regular issues that arise when building a new kitchen include: lack of storage space, poor lighting, and oddly arranged rooms. Be confident to plan out how you will use the kitchen in order to steer clear of these issues.

What is the most costly aspect of a kitchen overhaul?

The most expensive part of a kitchen renovation is typically the appliances. Depending on your allocation, you might be able to manage with just replacing your countertops and cabinets; but if you wish for new high-end stainless steel devices, that money can really accumulate rapidly.

What substances are usually used in modern kitchens?

Designs in up-to-date kitchens fluctuate. They can be made of stainless steel, black granite countertops, and sleek white cabinets for an sophisticated style that will make your kitchen be noticeable from the rest.

The list goes on with a range of choices to fit distinct tastes or financial plans.

Is it more affordable to refinish or exchange cabinets?

It depends on the age and makes of your cabinets. If they are less than five years old, it is typically less costly to recondition them rather than swap out them with new ones. Older models will necessitate to be exchanged rather than restored.

The price for exchanging a cabinet can vary anywhere from $160 -$200 per door while the expense for rehabilitating a door can span from $70 -$100.

Furthermore, modern cabinets are simpler to put together than seasoned ones and they arrive fully constructed as opposed to being constructed of multiple segments that require assembly.

What substances are regularly used in contemporary kitchens?

There are various different resources used in modern kitchens. Examples comprise:

  • Laminate - This substance is made of tiers of plastic that have been laminated together, which provides it a glossy finish and makes for an effortless-to-wash countertop. It also comes with a diversity of shades and designs which can be aligned to your residence's color scheme.
  • Granite - Granite is a durable natural stone that has been used for ages in kitchens and other spots of the house, chiefly because it presents strong longevity and can endure temperature from cooking or dishwashing.
  • Natural Stone - A more pricey choice than laminate, but this substance gives you a richer look with its genuine surface.
  • Formica - A manmade resource that is long-lasting and easy to clean, with a variety of color schemes.

What adds the most worth when refurbishing a kitchen?

When overhauling a kitchen, introducing new cupboards is virtually always a property owner's first thought. However, if you want to enhance the return value of your home, think beyond cabinets and think about elements that contribute real value - like an island or breakfast alcove.

What are the pros and cons of kitchen renovation?

There are many advantages to a kitchen remodel including increased resale value for your home, bettered usability in your space with an updated design, and possibly lowered power charges due to new materials. However, there is no certainty that an updated kitchen will contribute to the desired rise in your house's importance.

What should you not perform in a kitchen renovation?

When remodeling your kitchen, make sure to interact with the contractors and planners throughout the journey.

Don't make any crucial blueprint judgments prior to talking it over with a specialist because you might regret those determinations later on in the project or find out that they are more expensive than you expected.

Should my kitchen cupboards go to the top?

The reply is: yes and no.

Cupboard height is a matterof preference in many cases. You could have cabinets that reach to the top or you may like lower cabinets with an open space above them and lighting installed for ambient brightness.

The ideal method to decide what's right for your kitchen makeover is by pondering how it would seem from various perspectives throughout the kitchen.

What is the lifespan of kitchen storage units?

Kitchen cupboards have a lifespan of 30 years. This is due to the moisture in the air and from food spills, which cause them to oxidize and twist over time.

What are the various forms of kitchen configurations?

There are three fundamental forms of kitchen configurations:

1. Galley Kitchen

A long and narrow kitchen is typically long and narrow with a single row of storage units on one side of the room, and devices on the other. This design limits movement in the kitchen, permitting you to finish activities without disruptions from others in your home. It is commonly used in tiny areas where space is at a premium, and works best with one or two people cooking.

2. L-Shaped Kitchen

The L-shaped kitchen layout includes an island or peninsula that functions as a partition between the cooking zone and the remainder of the room. This layout generates more countertop space than galley and U-shaped kitchens. This provides the cook a region to prep food that is distinct from where other family members are able to sit and visit. However, there is unused room in the room because no one can walk fully around both flank of the kitchen island/peninsula.

3. 3-Sided Kitchen

A 3-sided kitchen design produces a large cooking area with no wasted space. This kitchen layout includes an island or peninsula that serves as a barrier between the cooking area and the rest of the room. The U-shaped kitchen is ideal for hosting. It offers enough countertop space to prepare food for groups of people without establishing traffic patterns that limit activity around the cooking zone.

4. Combo Kitchen Floor Plans

Combinations of kitchen designs are very popular because they give the advantages of more than one design. For example, a galley kitchen that opens into a nook is considered a blended design. The "L" shaped kitchen is also considered to be a blended layout..This unique layout incorporates an island with sitting space which is fantastic for hosting.

Do I require to do anything after a kitchen remodel?

Yes, it's crucial for you to tidy up any construction rubble that may have been left on the grounds by builders or installers. You also wish to preserve your new floors shielded from being scuffed as soon as possible so ensure you place mats at all entryways to the kitchen and protect your new wood ground with protective sheets throughout this time.

We recently completed a kitchen remodel with Good Company and it looks amazing! The owner, Daniel M. and his project manager Daniel L. were so timely and both had great communication skills. We have remodeled many homes and rooms, but this process was the easiest. The bids were clear and detailed, the subcontractors were terrific, and they even finished the project early. I had them repair some drywall. You could not tell where the very large hole had been. They were quick to come out to give a quote, then came out the next day to fix it, and had it completely done that same day. Very pleased and will use again.

My wife and I used Good Company Construction on a MAJOR remodel of our house including a complete gutting of the kitchen, complete new flooring throughout the house, painting throughout, raising the sunken living room floor, new baseboards and trim, a new (and relocated) island in the kitchen, quartz countertops, installing new ceiling beams in the living room, and building custom cabinets in kitchen and living room. I'm sure I'm leaving some things out. I cannot speak highly enough of the quality of their work. Colton Cook, the owner of the company, and Mathew Kruse, the site supervisor, not only did an outstanding job but were also great to work with. They went the extra mile to make sure we were satisfied with the work done. I should also add that they not only did quality work, but they are quality people as well. We are VERY happy with the end product. They next time we need anything done on the house (though I do hope it's a while) we will call Good Company first. We can't recommend them highly enough.
